Past, present and future
A Traditional (Electric) Art
Tattooing has been around for a long, long time. Humanity all across the globe has been putting ink to skin. Ötzi the iceman from Europe’s Copper Age (5000 years ago!), ancient Egyptians, Filipinos, indigenous peoples of North America, the Ainu people and later the Japanese, Maori and Samoan culture, Vikings, the Ottoman Empire, ancient Greece and Rome and so many more. It’s clear that we’ve had a fascination with tattooing in one way or another for the majority of our ‘recent’ existence.
Modern Western tattooing is a well documented topic. The unbelievable tale of Martin and Nora Hildebrandt, Samuel O’Reilly who patented the very first electric tattoo machine, Sailor Jerry and Ed Hady’s “gang” who had an undeniable major influence in modern-day tattooing.
